REAL MADRID DEFENDER SERGIO RAMOS
Sergio Ramos has paid tribute to Barcelonaafter they pipped Real Madrid to the post to
win the Liga title by just one point on
Saturday.
"We've been here until the end and you've got
to congratulate Barcelona because they are
deserving winners of this league," Ramos told
Real Madrid's official website, before
commenting on his own team. "We're proud of
how the team has put the pressure on and
had belief until the last moment."
Despite Real Madrid -- who already trailed
Barcelona by a single point prior to the
teams' respective final matches -- beating
Deportivo 2-0 on Saturday, Barcelona already
held a comfortable lead against Granada at
half-time on Saturday, making Real's title
hopes seem increasingly less likely.
Speaking of the second half of the game
against Deportivo, Ramos said: "It was difficult
not to pay attention to the Barcelona match,"
adding "I found out at the end of the first
half."
"We went out with everything we had from the
off in order to achieve our aim, which was to
win.
"We had hope, which is the last thing you want
to lose."
But Real Madrid's season is not yet over,
with one remaining chance of silverware
against Atletico Madrid in the Champions
League final on May 28.
"Now we have a beautiful Champions League
final that we want to win to make it an
unforgettable year," Ramos said.
"It's a shame we've not been able to win La
Liga but we'll learn from it for next year.
The team who makes the fewest mistakes is
the one who takes the title."
Meanwhile, Keylor Navas put the club's
European successes down to consistency:
"We've performed more consistently in the
Champions League and that's why we're in the
final.
"We're relaxed, keen to prepare well for the
game and to get our minds focused so that
we go into it 100 percent ready."
